CR V diesel exhaust back pressure sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Honda CR-V diesel exhibited warning lights, reduced engine power, smoke on acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell, suggesting a potential issue with the exhaust back pressure sensor. The symptoms were indicative of a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) problem, possibly involving a faulty sensor. It was recommended to check error codes and sensor readings using a diagnostic tool. After professional inspection, the exhaust back pressure sensor was confirmed defective and replaced, resolving the issues.

I haven't checked the DPF differential pressure sensor readings. How would I know if it's trying to regenerate?

If it's trying to regenerate, you might notice slightly higher engine revs at idle and a change in exhaust note. But with those symptoms, especially the smoke, I'd suspect a faulty sensor. It's likely best to get it checked professionally. Driving with a faulty DPF could cause further damage.

Took it to a workshop as suggested. The exhaust back pressure sensor was defective. Cost 245€ to replace. Runs great now!

Sounds like a DPF issue. Reduced power and smoke are classic signs. Have you checked for error codes? Also check the DPF differential pressure sensor readings with a diagnostic tool. Is it trying a DPF regeneration?
