CR V reduced engine power

Hi, I'm having some trouble with my 2013 Honda CR-V diesel. It's only done about 33,000 km. Recently, I've noticed the engine power seems reduced, and a warning light has popped up on the speedometer. Sometimes it struggles to start, and the lights are flickering. I plugged it into a diagnostic tool, and it's showing an error stored in the memory. Could this be a faulty generator?

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Honda CR-V diesel with 33,000 km is experiencing reduced engine power, a warning light on the speedometer, starting difficulties, and flickering lights. These issues could be caused by a faulty alternator or a weak battery. Initially, it was suggested to check the battery, as a weak battery can cause electrical issues and misleading error codes. After further investigation, it was confirmed that the alternator was faulty, and replacing it resolved the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there, I drive a CR-V too! Those symptoms sound awfully familiar. Reduced engine power, warning lights, and struggling to start... hmm. Have you checked the battery? A weak battery can sometimes cause all sorts of weird electrical issues and trigger those error codes. It might be worth a look before you jump to replacing the generator, which can be costly. Is the 'generator' the same as the 'alternator'? Just making sure we're on the same page.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, by generator, I mean the alternator. Sorry for the confusion, I'm not really a car expert! The battery seems okay, but I haven't had it properly tested. If it was the battery, would that also explain the error code and the weak lights?

Ah, okay, alternator it is! Well, in my case, the weak battery was causing all sorts of havoc with the car's electronics. The error codes were misleading, and the lights were definitely flickering. It might be worth getting the battery properly load-tested to rule it out. However, if that doesn't fix it, then it probably is the alternator. In this case, I would recommend you go straight to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice! I'll get the battery checked out first thing tomorrow. I took your advice and went to the workshop, and you were right - it was indeed the alternator that was faulty. The repair cost me 960€ to get it replaced, but at least the car is now working as expected again. Thanks again for your help!
