CR Z Low Brake Fluid Spongy Pedal
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Honda CR-Z hybrid exhibited a low brake fluid warning and a spongy brake pedal. The issue was suspected to be caused by worn brake pads, as worn pads can cause the calipers to require more fluid, thus lowering the fluid level. It was advised to inspect the brake system for leaks and worn components. Upon inspection at a garage, it was confirmed that the front brake pads were worn and needed replacement.

The pedal feels kind of spongy. I don't remember the last time the brakes were inspected. If it is just worn pads, would that really cause the brake fluid level to drop that much? Where are the common spots to check for leaks?

A spongy pedal feel plus low fluid strongly suggests worn pads. As the pads wear down the calipers need more fluid to actuate them, lowering the level in the reservoir. Without a recent brake inspection, I'd advise getting it checked at a shop ASAP. They can inspect the whole system, including master cylinder, brake lines and calipers.

I took your advice and brought it to a garage. Turns out the front brake pads were worn and needed replacing. Total cost was around 480€. Appreciate the help!

Low brake fluid and strange pedal feedback isn't ideal. Is the feedback spongy, hard, or something else? When was the last time you had your brakes inspected? It could be worn pads, but it's always worth checking for leaks.
