Crafter Blower Motor Dead, HVAC Control System Alert

Has anyone experienced a blower motor failure possibly related to an air conditioning sensor issue on a 2008 Crafter? The HVAC system shows no response when adjusting fan speeds, and I suspect the auto recirculation system might be involved. Looking for guidance on diagnostic steps and repair solutions that worked for others, particularly interested in which components needed replacement and approximate repair costs. The climate control system worked fine until recently, and there are no other electrical issues present.

Having experienced this exact issue with my 2006 Crafter, I can share what worked for me. With some experience in HVAC troubleshooting, I found that the AUC sensor connection was the culprit, not the blower motor itself. The symptoms were identical, no response to fan speed adjustments and the auto recirculation system acting up. My climate control system had been working perfectly until one day it just stopped responding. The workshop diagnosed a faulty cable connection to the air conditioning sensor. The wiring had deteriorated over time, causing intermittent connection issues with the HVAC sensor system. The repair involved replacing the damaged wiring and securing the plug connection properly. Total cost was 95€ including diagnostics and labor. Before jumping to conclusions about the blower motor, could you share: Are there any error codes showing? Does the system make any noise when you adjust settings? Have you noticed any unusual smells from the vents? When exactly did the problem start occurring? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced and could save you from unnecessary parts replacement.

Just had my 81501KM service done last month. The HVAC system started showing these symptoms after the check. In my case, the fan makes a faint clicking sound when adjusting settings, but no actual air movement occurs. No error codes on the dash, and no odors from the vents. The auto recirculation feature seems completely dead too, used to hear it engaging before, but now nothing. I noticed this happens regardless of engine temperature or outdoor conditions. The air conditioning sensor and climate control panel lights still work normally though. Have booked it in for diagnostics next week since the workshop suggested potential wiring issues rather than a complete blower motor failure. Will update once I know more.

Thanks for the additional details about your Crafter. Based on your description, this sounds nearly identical to what I encountered, especially the clicking sound and dead auto recirculation system. In my case, after the annual service, a technician had accidentally disturbed the wiring harness connecting the odor sensor and climate control modules. The clicking you hear is likely the blower motor trying to engage but failing due to a broken signal path, just like mine. The fact your cabin air sensor lights still work but the auto recirculation doesnt respond points strongly to a wiring issue rather than a complete sensor fault or blower failure. The technician should focus inspection on: Wiring connections behind the climate control panel, The main HVAC harness near the blower assembly, Air conditioning sensor plug connections, Ground wire connections for the entire HVAC system My repair ended up being straightforward once they found the loose connection. Good call getting it checked professionally rather than replacing parts blindly. The diagnostic fee was well worth avoiding unnecessary replacements. Let us know what they find. If the wiring is the issue like in my case, repair costs should stay under 150€.

The technician completed the inspection today, and you were absolutely right. The wiring harness connecting the cabin air sensor to the climate control unit had been disturbed during the recent service. The auto recirculation system and blower motor are both fine. The clicking sound was exactly as you described, the blower trying to activate but failing due to the broken connection. They found two damaged wires near the main HVAC harness that were causing the sensor fault. Total repair cost came to 120€ including a new wiring connector and labor. The climate control system is now working perfectly again, proper fan response at all speeds and the auto recirculation engages normally. Such a relief it wasnt a major component failure. Thanks for sharing your experience. Saved me from potentially replacing the entire blower motor assembly unnecessarily. Really appreciate the detailed guidance on what to look for.
