Crafter Diesel Mount Failure Causing Rough Idle at 104K

My Crafter diesel started acting up lately with rough idling and check engine light. The error code points toward engine mount problems. Anyone else experienced similar mount failure symptoms on their van? Running at 104004KM and wondering if this is a common wear issue at this mileage. Had a bad experience with my mechanic before, so looking for advice on diagnosis and repair before taking it in again.

Having faced similar symptoms on a Transporter TDI, can confirm rough idling often indicates a failed mount. The engine mount deterioration causes excessive vibration, triggering the check engine light. The rubber mount breaks down over time, allowing too much engine movement. The defective engine mounts became apparent when the engine would shift noticeably during acceleration and gear changes. The transmission mount was also affected due to the extra stress. A proper inspection revealed cracked rubber mounts and worn bushings. This is a serious issue requiring prompt attention, as failed mounts can lead to: Misaligned drive components, Damaged transmission, Broken fuel lines, Stressed electrical connections The repair involved replacing both the engine mount and transmission mount assemblies. At your mileage, this is a common wear item, especially in commercial vehicles. Would recommend getting a thorough mount inspection from a specialist familiar with these vans. The symptoms significantly improved after mount replacement, no more vibration, stable idle, and the check engine light cleared. Consider having all mounts checked since they typically wear at similar rates.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had the exact same issue with my VW last year, rough idle and engine light due to a failed mount. The mounting bracket was completely shot and the rubber mount had deteriorated badly. The repair fixed it completely and the van runs smooth now. Just wondering, do you remember roughly what the total repair cost was for your mount replacement? Also curious if youve had any other mount-related problems pop up since getting it fixed?

Thanks for asking about the costs. Actually just had it sorted last week, turned out the main issue wasnt the mount replacement itself but a faulty cable connection near the motor mount. The fix was relatively affordable at 95€ for the electrical repair. The vibration issues have completely disappeared since the repair. The mechanic did a full check of all rubber mounts while the van was up on the lift and confirmed they are still in good condition. No other mount wear problems have surfaced since the repair. The engine runs stable now with no vibration or rough idling issues. Worth mentioning that checking mount conditions should be part of regular maintenance, as worn motor mounts can cause cascading problems if left unchecked. The early warning signs like vibrations should never be ignored.

I finally took it to my trusted mechanic after getting tired of the vibrations. The engine mount diagnosis confirmed what everyone suggested, the rubber mount had completely separated from the mounting bracket. The transmission mount also showed significant wear from the excess movement. The total repair came to 450€ including parts and labor for both mounts. My mechanic showed me the old parts, the rubber was totally deteriorated. Since the replacement three months ago, the van runs perfectly smooth with no vibration or rough idle. The check engine light hasnt returned either. The whole repair took about 4 hours. They had to support the engine while swapping the defective engine mounts. Really glad I got it fixed before it caused damage to other components. Going to make mount inspections part of my regular maintenance from now on.
