Crankshaft Sensor Issue

Hi, I have a 2005 Peugeot 307 diesel with 138426 km. The check engine light is on, engine power is reduced, engine response is poor, and fuel consumption is higher. I scanned it and got a 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value' error. I suspect a defective crankshaft sensor. Any ideas?

I had exactly the same issue on my 307! Same error code and symptoms. Have you checked the wiring to the crankshaft sensor? Sometimes it gets damaged or corroded. Also, any misfires?

Thanks for the quick response. I did a quick visual check of the wiring, but didn't see anything obvious. I haven't noticed any misfires specifically, but the engine definitely isn't running smoothly. Did replacing the crankshaft sensor fix your problem completely?

Yeah, the wiring looked fine on mine too at first glance. It turned out to be a break further down the loom. And yes, replacing the sensor fixed it completely. Cost me around 340€ at the workshop, including diagnostics. Honestly, with those symptoms and the error code, I'd get it checked out by a pro. Could also be a timing chain issue, but the sensor is the more likely culprit.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the help. I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – it was indeed the crankshaft sensor. Replaced it, and now it runs like a charm again! Cost me 340€ as well.
