Crider high fuel consumption and stalling

I'm having a weird issue with my 2021 Honda Crider (gasoline engine). It's got 126259 km on it. Lately, I've noticed my fuel consumption is way up, and the engine sometimes stalls when I'm idling. Plus, the check engine light is on, and I'm seeing some smoke when I accelerate. I'm thinking it might be the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. Does this sound right?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Honda Crider with 126,259 km is experiencing high fuel consumption, engine stalling at idle, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. It is recommended to inspect the air intake system for obstructions or leaks and consult a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair, as the MAF sensor's malfunction can affect the air-fuel ratio and engine performance. The issue was confirmed to be the MAF sensor, and after repair, the car's performance improved.

The symptoms you described, specifically increased fuel consumption, engine stalls at idle, the illuminated check engine light, and smoke upon acceleration, strongly suggest a potential issue with the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. I recommend inspecting the air intake system for any obstructions or leaks. Also, when was the last time you replaced the air filter?

Thanks for the quick reply! I checked the air filter a few weeks ago, and it looked pretty clean. No visible obstructions in the intake either. If it is the MAF sensor, is it something I could try to fix myself, or should I just take it to a workshop?

Given the potential impact of a malfunctioning MAF sensor on the air-fuel ratio and overall engine performance, I recommend consulting a qualified mechanic. While a DIY replacement might seem feasible, the diagnostic process and potential recalibration of the engine control unit (ECU) often require specialized equipment and expertise. Continuing to drive with a faulty MAF sensor can exacerbate the issue and potentially lead to further damage.

Okay, that makes sense. I appreciate the advice! I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the MAF sensor. The repair cost me about 365€, but the car is running much better now. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
