Croma oil pressure warning
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Fiat Croma diesel with low mileage is experiencing an oil pressure warning light and loud mechanical noises from the engine. The initial suspicion is a defect in the oil pump. Suggestions include checking the oil level, oil viscosity, and the oil pressure sensor. Ultimately, a mechanic confirms the oil pump is defective, leading to its replacement.

Thanks for the quick reply. The oil and filter were changed recently. The oil level is correct too. Is it possible the oil pressure sensor is faulty? I would like to explore all potential issues, before assuming the oil pump needs repair.

The oil pressure sensor is a possibility. However, from my experience, when I had the same symptoms, the sensor was ok. If you are hearing loud mechanical noises, the oil pump is not working properly. I suggest taking it to a workshop for diagnosis before you cause serious engine damage.

Thanks for the help. Following your advice, I had it checked by a mechanic. The oil pump was indeed defective. The final bill came to 755€ including labor and parts. A big thanks to you for your suggestion.

I have a Croma too, and those symptoms sound worryingly familiar. When was the last time you changed your oil and filter? Have you checked the oil level? Low oil viscosity might also be a cause. I would begin with the simple fixes, before assuming that the oil pump is defect.
