Cronos transmission oil pressure fault

I'm having trouble with my 2020 Fiat Cronos with a gasoline engine, which has 140k on the clock. The engine light came on, and the scan shows a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. The gearbox is acting up – emergency mode sometimes, slips a lot, and I hear grinding when shifting. I checked the basics, but haven't done any major work yet. Has anyone seen this before? Could it be something simple like low oil?

Summary of the thread

The 2020 Fiat Cronos experienced a transmission oil pressure sensor fault, leading to symptoms like emergency mode activation, gear slipping, and grinding noises. The initial suspicion was low transmission oil, which can cause pressure drops and trigger sensor faults. After checking, it was confirmed that the oil level was low, pointing to a faulty pressure switch and grime in the transmission. The issue was resolved with a professional service that included replacing the pressure switch and changing the gearbox oil, restoring smooth operation.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my Cronos. I'm not sure of the year, but the symptoms were almost exactly the same: slipping gears and warning lights. I’d start by checking the transmission fluid level first. It seems like many overlook this, but it is usually a good starting point. Did you notice any oil stains under your car?

I was thinking about the oil level. But there are no stains or anything obvious. Do you think low oil could trigger the pressure sensor fault and all these symptoms? How low was yours when you had this problem?

In my experience, low oil can definitely cause problems with the pressure sensor and cause those symptoms. The oil acts as a hydraulic fluid in the gearbox, and if the level is low, the pressure will drop, affecting shifting and triggering the sensor. I think you should visit a professional service shop, because if the oil level is correct, this may be a hardware issue with the transmission itself.

Thanks a lot for sharing that, I think I will swing by the mechanic. It turns out that the oil was indeed low, which pointed to a bad pressure switch and some grime in the transmission leading to it slipping. It cost me 365€ including parts, labor, and a gearbox oil change to get it sorted, but at least it's running smoothly now. I appreciate the help!
