Crossland X AC Compressor Failure

My 2020 Vauxhall Crossland X, gasoline engine, is throwing a fit. The A/C compressor just decided to quit at 65984 km. No cold air at all, the system won't even switch on. Hooked it up to a reader and got an error code related to the A/C. I'm suspecting the AC relay, but I'm pulling my hair out here. Anyone else seen this?

Sounds frustrating. Has the car battery been acting up lately? Weak battery can cause undervoltage issues and mess with sensitive components like the A/C compressor. Just a thought. How old is the battery?

The battery is the original one, so it's getting on a bit. But the car starts fine, no issues there. Could a slightly weak battery really kill the A/C compressor like that? I thought that kind of thing only happened in old cars...

Yeah, even if it starts okay, a slightly weak battery can cause voltage drops when the A/C kicks in, which can be enough to shut down the compressor. It's like trying to run a marathon on fumes. Still might be worthwhile to get the garage to check the belt tensioner and the relay switch as well for A/C issues, but battery seems like a real culprit here.

You were spot on! It was a simple fix in the end – undervoltage due to the old battery. New battery and a reset, and the A/C is blowing cold again. Cost me 240€ at my garage, so not too bad all things considered!
