Crossland X rough gearbox shifting

Hoping someone can assist, I'm stumped. I've got a 2021 Vauxhall Crossland X, diesel engine, with about 181488 km. Recently, the gearbox has started to feel really rough – like it's slipping or just not shifting cleanly. I've checked the basics, like making sure the gear oil isn't leaking. I'm starting to think it might be something internal with the transfer case. Could it be the transfer case oil? Maybe some defective gears inside? Has anyone else run into this? Any insight would be great before I take it to a shop.

I have a Vauxhall Crossland (not sure about the year), and I had similar symptoms. Gear grinding, unclean shifts... It turned out to be a transfer case oil wear fault. Have you checked your transfer case oil? If it has a metallic sheen, that's not a good sign.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'transfer case oil wear fault,' do you mean the oil itself was just old and worn out, or was there actually something wrong inside the transfer case causing the wear? Also, how did you diagnose it? Did you just drain the oil and look at it, or did you need special equipment?

In my case, the oil analysis indicated excessive wear, specifically metal particles. The root cause was determined to be defective gears within the transfer case itself. While an oil change might provide temporary relief, the underlying issue will persist. A workshop visit is advisable for proper diagnostics and repair.

Thanks a million for the info! That confirms my fears, but at least I have a direction now. I took it to a mechanic, he confirmed that the transfer case was the issue and the defective gears were causing the oil to wear out very quick. Quoted me 330€ for the repair. Thanks again!
