Thanks for the reply. I had it scanned, and it showed a mixture preparation error code. You mentioned a rich exhaust smell; how strong should it be? What else could cause such an error?

The fault code and symptoms strongly indicate an issue with the fuel injection system. A defective injection valve or injector could be the culprit. If the exhaust smells strongly of fuel, it supports the diagnosis. It is advisable to seek professional assistance from a workshop for proper diagnosis and repair.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to the workshop, and you were right; it was a defective injector. Cost me 515€ to get it sorted. Runs like new now!

The symptoms you described, along with the check engine light, point towards a potential mixture preparation error. Have you checked for any fault codes? A diagnostic scan should reveal more. It is possible the catalytic converter is clogged, or the intake manifold has a leak. Does the exhaust smell rich?
