Interesting. So, you think it's worth checking the crankshaft position sensor alongside the camshaft sensor? Is that a common interaction?

Yes, definitely worth checking both. In my case, the crankshaft sensor fault triggered the camshaft sensor issue. If you don't have the tools or know-how, probably best to get it checked at a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. You were spot on. Took it to a shop; the cable and plug of the camshaft sensor were defective; repair cost 95€. Car runs smoothly again.

Sounds familiar. Had similar symptoms on my old Volvo V70. Check engine light came on, rough idling. Turned out to be a faulty crankshaft position sensor which messed with the camshaft timing.
