Crossroad automatic transmission issue

I'm having a weird issue with my 2009 Honda Crossroad with a gasoline engine. It only has 48480 km on it. Recently, the automatic transmission has been acting up. The shifts feel implausible, the transmission indicator light is on, and sometimes it just doesn't shift right. It's even gone into emergency mode a couple of times. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Honda Crossroad owner experienced issues with the automatic transmission, including implausible shifts, the transmission indicator light being on, and the vehicle entering emergency mode. The problem was identified as potentially related to undervoltage affecting the electronic control unit (ECU), which relies on stable voltage to manage transmission functions. The suggested solution was to check the electrical system and transmission fluid, leading to a successful repair involving a transmission flush and oil replacement.

I also drive a Crossroad, and I had a similar problem. The implausible shifting and emergency mode sound familiar. Does it feel like it's slipping between gears? Have you noticed any undervoltage issues with your car recently, perhaps related to the battery or alternator?

Slipping is a good way to describe it. It feels like it's struggling to find the right gear. As for undervoltage, I haven't specifically checked, but the battery seems fine. Could low voltage really mess with the transmission like that?

Yes, absolutely. Modern automatic transmissions are heavily reliant on the vehicle's electrical system. Undervoltage can cause all sorts of erratic behavior, including the symptoms you described. The electronic control unit (ECU) needs stable voltage to properly control the solenoids and hydraulic valves within the transmission. Considering the symptoms, I'd recommend taking it to a reputable workshop to have the electrical system and transmission fluid level checked. It could save you from more extensive damage down the road.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out there was indeed undervoltage causing the transmission to act up. They did a transmission flush and oil replacement, and it cost me about 240€. It's shifting smoothly again now. Appreciate the help!
