Crown Hybrid Rough Running Stalling

My 2023 Toyota Crown hybrid with 54000 km is running rough, sometimes stalling at lights. The check engine light is on, and the car jerks when accelerating. Fluids are good, no leaks. Could it be a defective ignition coil or a loose cable/plug connection? Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Sounds familiar! I've got a Crown hybrid too, and I had almost the exact same symptoms a while back – rough running, stalling, the whole shebang. Is it worse when the engine is cold? Have you tried pulling the codes from the check engine light? That might give you a more precise idea of which cylinder is misfiring.

Yes, it's definitely worse when the engine is cold, takes a few minutes to smooth out a bit. I haven't pulled the codes yet, don't have a code reader. Thinking I might need to invest in one. So, you think it's likely the ignition coil then?

Based on what you're describing, yeah, it really does sound like a dodgy ignition coil. When mine went, it was a gradual thing at first, then got progressively worse. It's possible it could be something else, but the symptoms are pretty classic for coil failure. Given it's worse when cold, I'd bet on it. Honestly, save yourself the headache and take it to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly and replace the coil if needed.

The workshop confirmed it was a defective ignition coil. The cable connection was indeed faulty, just like I suspected. They replaced it for 95€ and now it runs like a charm again! Thanks a lot for your help, really appreciate it!
