Air filter was changed recently. Intake manifold seems okay, but I haven't inspected it closely. Fuel injectors haven't been cleaned, just added some injector cleaner to the tank. Was your issue definitely the injectors?

Yes, absolutely! My mechanic confirmed it was the fuel injectors causing the rich mixture. The increased fuel consumption was a major clue, along with the rough idling. I would strongly suggest getting them professionally checked. It might save you from further engine damage in the long run. Please be careful!

Thanks for the input. Took it to a workshop; diagnosis confirmed faulty injectors. Replaced them, total cost 515€. Runs much better now.

Oh my goodness, that sounds extremely concerning! I had a similar experience with my Cruze (though I can't recall the exact mileage). Have you checked the air filter or the intake manifold for any blockages? A dirty air filter can definitely mess with the fuel mixture. Also, when was the last time you had your fuel injectors cleaned?
