Cruze EGR Valve Issue

My 2019 Chevrolet Cruze gasoline engine is having issues. At 119483 km, it has reduced engine power, the check engine light is on, emits smoke during acceleration, runs roughly, has higher fuel consumption, jerks during acceleration, and makes a loud hissing sound when accelerating. I suspect a defective EGR valve. Any advice?

Sounds like a real mess! I had almost the exact same symptoms on my Cruze a while back. First thing, did you try checking for any obvious vacuum leaks around the EGR valve? Sometimes a loose hose can cause similar issues. Also, what kind of smoke are we talking about? Black, white, blue?

Black smoke points to running rich, which ties in with a faulty EGR valve messing with the air-fuel mixture. Given the symptoms, mileage, and especially the black smoke, it's likely the EGR valve is jammed open or malfunctioning. I ended up taking mine to a trusted mechanic. Saved myself a massive headache. They confirmed the EGR valve and sorted it quick. It's probably worth getting it properly diagnosed.
