Dacia Lodgy 2015 Performance Issues: Check Engine Light, Black Smoke, Startup Struggles, and Drop in Power

Hey guys, I need some help figuring out what's going on with my 2015 Dacia Lodgy. It's got about 65k+ on it and recently has been acting up. The check engine light's been on, I'm getting black smoke from the exhaust when I rev it, and it's been having issues with start ups, particularly when it's cold. It's jerky when I accelerate, idles rough and sometimes even stalls while sitting. On top of this, there's a noticeable drop in power, and worst of all there've been times when it just wouldn't start at all. I went through a bad experience the last time with a mechanic and I'm worried I might have a problem with the mixture preparation. Has anyone else faced similar issues or had to deal with this? Any advice on what it could be and your mechanic experience in such a case would be really appreciated. Cheers!

Hey there, sounds like you've got a bit of a situation on your hands. Your symptoms remind me of an incident I had with my 2018 Dacia Duster not too long ago. It was chugging along erratically like an old mule, very much like what you've described. Turns out, my troubles were rooted in a faulty Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR). This bugger had gone haywire and wasn't maintaining the right pressure in the fuel system. The black smoke and jerky acceleration are dead giveaways. FPR problems can indeed cause the engine to perform poorly and even stall while idling. The mechanic, after some thorough inspection, was able to identify it and replace the FPR. After fixing it, the car ran smooth as silk, no more black smoke or rough idling - it was like I was driving anew. Although I must say, it was indeed a serious issue. I had ignored the warning signs and had I delayed the fixing any further, it might've led to irreparable engine damage. The FPR really is a small but deceptively critical component in the car. So, I'd suggest getting your Lodgy checked out as soon as possible. You don't wanna mess around with a faulty FPR. Best of luck, and hope your ride gets back to its glory soon!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience with the Duster and that faulty FPR. Sounds a lot like the gremlin I'm battling in my Lodgy. The symptoms line up too well to ignore. Mind if I ask what the repair work set you back? I'm not rolling in dough at the moment, so just trying to brace myself. Plus, any more problems with your Dacia since the replacement? Hoping my situation is a one-time pay-and-fix deal and doesn't evolve into the nightmare series. Thanks!

Yo, glad to hear you're taking the FPR stuff seriously. My Dacia Duster is doing pretty well, thanks for asking. The replacement did hit my wallet a bit though. All said and done, it cost me about 250€. But hey, it was worth every cent to get my old girl revving like a dream again! About the preparation mixture issue you mentioned, I had the same worry too. But the mechanic gave it a good once-over and managed to sort it all out. Since then, there's been no sign of any mixture faults whatsoever. I must say, it's kind of been a relief, to be honest. Hopefully, your Lodgy's ordeal is a once-and-done type of thing too. Wishing you all the best with it!

Hey, that's a relief to hear. I can cope with that money hit if it means my Lodgy comes back to life without any scene. Good to know your Duster has been behaving since the FPR replacement. I appreciate your help and the reassurance about the mixture issue. It's a massive weight off my shoulders hearing it from someone who's been through the same. I'm getting my Lodgy checked tomorrow first thing in the morning! Fingers crossed, hoping for no more surprises. Cheers for the advice, and the well wishes!
