Diesel IAT Sensor Fault Killing Engine Performance?

Check Engine Light + Rough Running, IAT Sensor Issue? 2018 Chevy Silverado Diesel (76k km) throwing a check engine light with noticeable power loss. Engine's running rough and there's an error code stored. Pretty sure it's related to the intake air temperature sensor based on the symptoms. Had a sketchy experience with my last mechanic, so looking for advice from others who've dealt with similar temperature sensor problems. Has anyone had these exact symptoms? What was the fix and what did it cost? Would really appreciate hearing about trusted repair experiences, since I'm hesitant about going back to my previous shop.

Had the exact same problem on my 2015 Chevy Colorado Diesel last winter. The car diagnostics pointed to a faulty IAT sensor causing rough idling and power issues. Temperature reading was way off, which messed with the fuel mixture. Got it fixed at the shop, turned out the IAT sensor was completely dead and had some corrosion on the connector pins. The intake air sensor replacement itself wasn't a major repair job, just needed the new sensor and cleaning of the connection points. Wasn't particularly serious, but definitely not something you want to ignore since it affects engine performance and fuel economy. The rough running cleared up immediately after the new sensor was installed. Make sure they check the wiring harness too, sometimes that's the actual culprit rather than the sensor itself. From the symptoms you're describing, sounds exactly like what I experienced with my Colorado.

Just trying to get a ballpark figure to make sure I don't get overcharged. Also, curious if you've had any other engine issues since getting the temperature sensor replaced? Mine's going in for repair next week and want to know what to watch out for afterward.

Got your message about the repair costs. After getting the faulty intake air temperature sensor fixed, my total bill came to 155€, that covered both parts and labor. It was definitely worth it since the engine's been running perfectly smooth since then. Speaking of follow-up issues, I haven't had any problems with the air sensor or engine performance in the months after the repair. The rough running completely disappeared as soon as they installed the new intake air temperature sensor. The car diagnostics are all clear now, and fuel economy is back to normal too. Just make sure your mechanic properly tests the new air sensor after installation. A good shop will check that all temperature readings are accurate and the engine computer is getting the right signals. Would definitely say you're making the right call getting it fixed, these sensor issues only get worse if you leave them.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Finally got my truck fixed yesterday and wanted to share how it went. Took it to a new mechanic who was way more professional than my last one. The IAT sensor was definitely the culprit. They tested the intake air temperature readings and found them completely off. Repair cost was right around €160, which seems fair based on what others paid. The mechanic showed me the old sensor, totally corroded on the connections. Best part is the truck's running like new again. No more rough idling or power loss issues. The check engine light cleared up right after they installed the new temperature sensor. The whole repair only took about an hour. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. The new shop even cleaned up the entire sensor housing while they were in there, which my old mechanic never bothered to do. For anyone else facing similar symptoms, definitely get your air sensor checked out sooner rather than later.
