Door Switch Failure Kills Colorado Keyless Entry

Door electronics acting up on 2016 Colorado Diesel Having trouble with my keyless entry system on my 2016 Colorado Diesel (16,891 km). The car's throwing an error code and the keyless access has completely stopped working. Pretty sure it's a door actuator or wiring fault in the door mechanism, but my last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar door electronics issues? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Any suggestions for diagnosing this before heading to a shop?

Had the same issue on my 2013 Silverado Diesel last month. The door electronics were failing intermittently before completely dying. Turned out the door mechanism had a damaged wire harness where it flexes between the door and frame. The locking system would trigger out of nowhere and the keyless entry stopped responding entirely. The repair involved replacing the main door wiring harness and reprogramming the door control module. It wasn't a quick fix, took the shop about 4 hours to complete. The electric door components themselves were fine, but the connection was the culprit. The door handle assembly had to be removed to access everything. This is actually a serious issue since it can affect the entire central locking system and security features. Would definitely recommend getting it checked by a certified shop that specializes in automotive electrical systems. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced with the wiring fault. If you want to diagnose it yourself first, check if the door makes any clicking sounds when using the key fob. No sound usually points to electrical connection issues rather than a failed actuator.

Thanks for sharing that experience, it's incredibly similar to what I'm dealing with! Had my Colorado in the shop last week for the exact same sensor issue. The door switch would out of nowhere activate and the keyless entry was completely dead. The mechanic also found a wiring fault in my door harness, just like yours. Did you run into any other electrical gremlins after getting it fixed? I'm curious because my mechanic mentioned there could be some related issues down the line. Also wondering what the damage was to your wallet, my repair quote seemed pretty steep but I'd love to compare notes.

Just checked back in, glad to hear you got it sorted! After my repair, everything's been working perfectly for months now. The door handle electronics and keyless system are back to normal with no ghost activations or sensor issues. My fix was actually pretty straightforward, just needed a repair of the cable connection where the door harness meets the main loom. Sounds like we had identical problems with the door mechanism. The cost was reasonable at 95€ for the wiring repair and no other components needed replacement. Haven't seen any other electrical problems since the fix. The door actuator and all related switches are working exactly as they should. Looking back, the unusual activation issues were definitely from that damaged connection, once fixed, all those quirks disappeared. Pro tip for others: if you're getting intermittent door electronics issues, get it checked early. These problems rarely fix themselves and can actually get worse if left too long.

Thanks everyone for the input. Finally got the repair done last week and wanted to share how it went. The mechanic found a damaged wire harness just like you mentioned, same symptoms and all. Took them about 3 hours to fix, mostly because they had to tear apart the door panel to access the wiring. Total bill came to about 400 for parts and labor, not cheap, but better than replacing the entire door actuator which was their first guess. The sensor issue is completely gone now and the keyless entry works perfectly again. No more unusual door clicking or system errors. After dealing with sketchy electric door problems for weeks, it's such a relief to have it working properly. For anyone else facing similar issues, definitely worth getting it checked out early. The mechanic mentioned these wiring problems usually get worse over time and can affect other door electronics if left unfixed.
