DS3 Inlet VANOS Fault
Summary of the thread
The initial comment describes a 2011 Citroen DS3 with a check engine light and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be due to an inlet VANOS fault. Possible causes include issues with the inlet camshaft, solenoid valves, or power supply to the VANOS unit. Suggested solutions involve checking the wiring harness and connectors, monitoring the inlet camshaft angle deviation with an OBD scanner, and seeking professional diagnosis to confirm and repair the issue.

Could a faulty VANOS solenoid cause misfires at high RPM or low power? What live data should I monitor with my OBD scanner?

Yes, a bad inlet VANOS solenoid can cause misfires, especially at higher RPM, due to incorrect valve timing. Low power is common. Monitor the inlet camshaft angle deviation with an OBD scanner. A good VANOS system holds the target angle. Big deviation means trouble. A shop should diagnose it properly with specialized tools. Expect around 250€ for the repair once they find it.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions and the OBD scanner advice. I'll get a professional diagnosis to avoid making it worse. Seems I was on the right track. Appreciate it!

Sounds like a VANOS issue, maybe inlet camshaft. Could be camshaft solenoid valves or power to the VANOS unit. Check the wiring harness and connectors to the VANOS solenoids first. What diagnostic codes are you seeing?
