DS4 Transmission Issues

I'm having issues with my 2011 Citroen DS4 gasoline. I think it's the transmission oil temperature sensor. The engine and transmission warning lights are on, and the error memory recorded it. The gearbox sometimes goes into emergency mode, with slippage and bad shifts, plus a grinding noise. I think the gearbox oil level might be low. Has anyone else had this?

That sounds terribly familiar! I had almost the exact same problem with my DS4 a while back. I remember those lights on the dashboard and the awful shifting. The emergency mode was scary. I initially thought the transmission was completely shot. Did you happen to check the oil level yourself? That's the first thing they asked me when I called around.

I did check the oil level myself, but without any special tools. The dipstick looked okay, but I could be wrong. Were your symptoms exactly like mine?

Yes, down to the grinding noise. Honestly, checking the oil level yourself is a good start, but it can be tricky to get a proper reading without the right tools. I ended up taking mine to a workshop, and they confirmed it was the sensor plus low oil. If you are seeing all those symptoms, especially the emergency mode, I would recommend getting it checked professionally. It’s better to be safe than sorry with automatic transmissions.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a technician, and they confirmed it was a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor and low gearbox oil. Replacing the sensor and topping off the oil cost 365€.
