Ducato fuel filter heater error

I've got a 2005 Fiat Ducato with a diesel engine and I'm experiencing some issues. The error memory shows an error related to the fuel filter heater. I've noticed reduced engine power, poor engine response, higher fuel consumption, and uneven idling. The van has 224218 km on the clock. Could a defective cable or plug connection really be the culprit? Anyone else had similar problems?

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Fiat Ducato with a diesel engine is experiencing reduced engine power, poor response, higher fuel consumption, and uneven idling, with an error related to the fuel filter heater. The problem could be due to a defective cable or plug connection, as suggested by a similar case where a loose connection was found and resolved. Checking the fuel filter and electrical connections is recommended, and a visit to the workshop may be necessary to address the issue.

I had a similar issue with my Ducato. The symptoms you're describing sound very familiar. The fuel filter heater circuit can be quite sensitive. Have you checked the condition of the fuel filter itself? When was the last time you replaced it?

I haven't checked the filter itself, to be honest. I was focusing on the electrical side, given the error message. Is it possible that a clogged fuel filter could trigger the fuel filter heater error?

Yes, it's possible. While the error points to the heater, a significantly clogged filter can put extra strain on the system, potentially causing the heater to work harder and trigger a fault. Although based on my experience and the error in the memory, it's most likely a faulty cable or plug connection. In my case, I couldn't find anything myself and went to the workshop. They found a loose connection, cleaned it, and the problem was solved.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the filter, but it sounds like a trip to the workshop is in order. Turns out you were right, it was a defective cable! Cost me 95€ to fix.
