Fuel injector relay and crankshaft sensor - are they known issues? The garage suggested fuel pump, and thought that the cable or plug might be defective.

Well, on my Astra, it turned out to be a corroded wire causing intermittent power to the fuel pump. So yes, a cable issue can definitely mimic a failing pump! Given the mileage, it might be worth getting a professional diagnosis anyway. These gasoline delivery systems aren't easy to troubleshoot yourself. And maybe it's time to have the engine stalling issue solved at the workshop and to stop the rough engine running for good.

OK, thanks for the info. The garage confirmed it was the fuel pump cable. Repair cost 95€.

Wow, those symptoms sound suspiciously like what I went through with my old Opel Astra! Check engine light, stalling, the works. It was baffling. Have you checked the fuel injector relay or the crankshaft position sensor, by any chance? Those can cause similar issues, and they're relatively easy to check before condemning the entire fuel pump and the gasoline delivery.
