Durango GPS Navigation System Dead, Antenna Issues

Looking for help with GPS issues on my 2009 Durango. The navigation system completely stopped receiving GPS signals a few days ago. The car electronics show an error code related to navigation. I suspect its a GPS antenna problem but would like to confirm before taking it to a shop. Has anyone experienced similar GPS signal problems with their Durango? Would appreciate hearing about repair experiences and potential fixes, especially from those who got it properly diagnosed and repaired at a workshop.

Had a similar GPS module issue on my 2010 Challenger, basically the same car electronics setup as your Durango. Got it fixed last month after struggling with complete GPS signal loss. With some experience working on basic car maintenance, I first thought I could fix the vehicle GPS system myself. After checking connections and doing basic troubleshooting, the navigation system still showed the same error codes. Took it to my regular workshop where they diagnosed a faulty GPS antenna. The repair involved replacing the entire antenna assembly, which cost 200€ including labor. The car navigation works perfectly now, strong signal and accurate positioning. For a more specific diagnosis of your Durango, could you share: The exact error code showing up? Whether the GPS loss happened suddenly or gradually? If you notice any interference with other car electronics? If the GPS antenna on your roof shows any visible damage? These details would help determine if youre dealing with the same GPS antenna failure I experienced.

Thanks for sharing your Challenger repair experience. My Durango has 96465 KM and was last serviced 6 months ago. The GPS signal loss happened suddenly, with error code NAV-404 appearing on startup. No issues with other electronics. The GPS antenna looks intact from outside inspection, no visible damage on the roof mount. I checked all accessible connections under the dash but found nothing loose. Signal interference from other devices seems unlikely since the system worked fine until it completely stopped. Good to know the antenna repair solved your issue. Was your repair done with OEM parts or aftermarket? Im considering booking a diagnostic appointment but wanted to gather more info on typical repair costs and parts availability first.

Thanks for those extra details about your Durango. Like my Challenger repair, this really sounds like a GPS antenna failure, especially with that sudden signal loss and the NAV-404 error code. I went with OEM parts for my repair as aftermarket GPS antennas can sometimes cause satellite connection issues. The original parts have better shielding against signal interference. While aftermarket options might save 50-70€, the reliability difference makes OEM worth the extra cost. My total repair cost was: OEM GPS antenna: 140€, Labor: 60€, Total: 200€ Parts availability was good, the shop had the antenna in stock. Installation took about 1.5 hours since they had to properly route the cable through the headliner to avoid any car electronics interference. Since your symptoms match mine exactly, sudden failure, same error code, no visible damage, Id recommend getting it checked soon. These GPS antenna issues typically dont resolve themselves and can sometimes worsen if moisture gets into the failing unit. Keep us posted on what you find out at the shop. The repair should be straightforward if its indeed the antenna, just like in my case.

Thanks for all the detailed GPS antenna info and repair cost breakdown. Your Challenger experience definitely helps confirm my suspicions about the antenna being the culprit in my Durango. Given the similar symptoms and error codes, I think Ill go ahead and schedule that diagnostic appointment. The sudden GPS signal loss and NAV-404 error match your situation exactly. Good point about going with OEM parts too, I dont want to risk future car navigation problems just to save a few Euro on aftermarket components. The 200€ total repair cost seems reasonable, especially considering the car electronics expertise needed to properly route everything through the headliner. Ill make sure to request OEM parts when I book the appointment. Really appreciate you sharing the thorough repair details and pricing. Ill post an update once I get the vehicle GPS system diagnosed and fixed. Hopefully its a straightforward antenna replacement like yours was.
