Dying Boxster: Stalling Out of Nowhere & No-Start Mystery

Hey everyone, having some serious trouble with my 2019 Porsche Boxster (13,669 KM). The car dies out of nowhere while driving, sometimes won't start at all, and the warning light on the dash keeps coming on. My previous mechanic experience wasn't great, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. I suspect it might be the water sensor, but I'm not sure. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their Boxster? Would love to hear about your experiences and recommendations for reliable mechanics who know their way around Porsches. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2016 Porsche Cayman last summer. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced, unusual stalling, starting problems, and warning lights. Turned out it was indeed a sensor issue, but in my case, it was the crankshaft position sensor that had a damaged cable connection. Took it to my Porsche specialist, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The repair itself wasn't super complicated, mainly involved replacing the sensor and fixing the wiring harness connection. It wasn't a major mechanical problem, but it definitely needed immediate attention because these sensor issues can leave you stranded anywhere. My advice would be to get it checked at a certified Porsche dealership or a specialist who really knows these cars. While independent mechanics might be cheaper, these modern Porsches have complex electronics that require specific diagnostic tools and expertise. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful and sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Out of curiosity, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything been running smoothly since, or have you had any other sensor-related issues pop up?

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, I actually got my car fixed since my last reply. You'll be glad to know that it was indeed a water sensor malfunction, just like we suspected. The mechanic found a faulty cable connection that was causing all those problems. Set me back 365 Euro, but honestly, it was worth every penny considering how nerve-wracking those unusual stalls were! Since getting it sorted, my Cayman's been running like a dream, no more surprise shutdowns or warning lights. It's been about 8 months now, and I haven't had a single sensor issue pop up. Just feels great to be able to enjoy driving again without constantly worrying about getting stranded! If you're still looking for a mechanic recommendation, I'd be happy to share mine. They really knew their stuff with these Porsche electronics. Sometimes paying a bit more for someone who really knows these cars inside out is totally worth it, especially when it comes to tricky sensor issues like this. Let me know how it goes with yours!

Thanks so much for the update! I actually just got my Boxster back from the shop yesterday. Took your advice and went to a Porsche specialist, turned out to be exactly what you said. The water sensor was playing up and needed replacing, plus they found some corroded wiring that needed fixing. Cost me around 400 Euro in total. Honestly, what a relief! Had my first proper drive today, and it feels like a completely different car. No more unusual shutdowns or warning lights, just smooth sailing. The mechanic you recommended was spot on, super professional and walked me through everything they were doing. Really appreciate everyone's help here, especially your detailed response about your experience. It's great knowing I'm not the only one who's dealt with these sensor issues. Time to finally enjoy my Boxster again without constantly watching that dashboard! Thanks again for all the help! Case closed on this one!
