E Klasse Diesel rough idle and engine light

My Mercedes E Klasse Diesel, build year 2000, is having issues. It has 232001 km on it. The check engine light is on, and the engine sometimes stalls when idling. I've also noticed reduced engine power. Could car sensors be the cause? I'm hoping someone can give me a hint where to start. I'm worried it's the fuel injection.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my E Klasse a while back: rough idling, check engine light, loss of power especially when accelerating. Has your fuel efficiency changed lately? For me it was the fuel volume regulator. A faulty high pressure pump can cause that, so keep that in mind.

Fuel efficiency has definitely gone down, that's a good point. Where is the fuel volume regulator located? Is it easy to access and replace?

The fuel volume regulator is part of the high pressure pump. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend tackling it yourself unless you really know what you're doing. Fuel injection systems can be tricky. It's best to take it to a workshop. They can diagnose it properly and replace the pump if needed.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local shop, and they confirmed it was the fuel volume regulator, linked to the high pressure pump as you mentioned. They replaced the pump, and so far it's running smoothly. Total cost was 1510€. Appreciate the help!
