E Klasse Hybrid Issues

I have a 2020 Mercedes E Klasse hybrid and I'm experiencing some issues I'm hoping someone can shed some light on. It's done 264999 km. Lately, I've noticed higher fuel consumption, a definite reduction in engine power, and the engine sometimes stalls when idling. Also, there's noticeable smoke when accelerating, which isn't ideal. I suspect the injection system is faulty. I've checked around the petrol system and haven't spotted any obvious leak, but I'm not really sure where to start looking. I've read somewhere that it could be a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced something similar?

I have experience with a similar issue on an E Klasse. The symptoms you describe align with a potential fault in the injection system. The increased fuel consumption, reduced performance, stalling, and smoke all point to an improper fuel-air mixture. Have you had the Engine system scanned for any error codes? Also, can you describe the colour and density of the smoke?

I haven't scanned for error codes yet, as I don't have the equipment. Regarding the smoke, it's black and quite thick, especially when accelerating hard. Could this still be related to the fuel injection, even without a visible petrol leak?

Black smoke typically indicates an over-fuelling condition, strongly suggesting the injection system is at fault. While a visible leak is always a concern, the issue could stem from faulty injectors delivering too much fuel, or perhaps an issue with the sensors that control the fuel-air mixture. Think of it like a tap that's stuck open. A diagnostic scan would pinpoint the exact component at fault. I would recommend taking it to a qualified workshop for diagnosis.

I took it to a workshop as you suggested, and they confirmed it was a defective plug connection in the injection system, as suspected. Repair cost was 95€. Everything seems to be working fine now.
