Hey, thanks for your answer! It gives me quite an idea of what could be wrong with my Arteon. I have one more question, and hope you remember: How much did the repair cost you in total? And did you experience a similar or different problem afterwards?

Hey, you're welcome! After I took my Passat to the garage, they fixed the fault in the EGR valve. It cost me €355, quite a chunk, but after that the car ran perfectly again. I haven't had any more problems since then, at least nothing that would indicate another EGR problem! I'll keep my fingers crossed that your Arteon runs just as smoothly. Just have it checked. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the valuable information. So €355, yes that is indeed a lot of money, but I guess I have no choice but to go to the garage. Good to hear that you haven't had any further problems since then. Let's hope it goes just as smoothly for me. I'll have my car checked at the garage then. Thanks again and have a nice weekend!

Hey, I had something similar with my 2014 VW Passat. I also had problems with the EGR valve. In my case, the same check engine light came on and the exhaust smells were really strong. The vehicle was also shaking at idle speed. After checking this at the garage, I was told that the EGR valve was stuck and needed to be changed. It wasn't a fun issue, but at least it explains exactly the symptoms you describe here. Replacing the EGR valve is no small matter. It affects the performance and function of your engine. So the sooner you do it, the better. So don't wait too long and have your car checked at the garage. Good luck!
