Elantra automatic transmission issue
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Hyundai Elantra diesel is experiencing starting issues and a check engine light, seemingly linked to the automatic transmission's parking position. The gearbox also slips, and an error code indicates a transmission fault. The mechanic suspects the control unit, which was confirmed and replaced at a cost of about 1000€.

Thanks for the reply! I'm not very familiar with car repairs. Where exactly is the transmission sensor located, and is it something I could potentially check myself?

I'm also not a mechanic, but if I remember correctly, the sensor sits somewhere on the transmission itself. I wouldn’t try to fix it yourself, as you need some technical knowledge and you can do more damage. Best bet is to take it to a workshop. They should be able to diagnose it properly and tell you exactly what's going on.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I took it to the workshop as you suggested. It turned out that the control unit was indeed defective. It cost me about 1000€.

Interesting. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, also with an automatic gearbox. The engine wouldn't start intermittently, and it turned out to be a faulty transmission sensor. It was as if the car didn't recognize that it was in Park. Did you check the transmission sensor?
