Elantra Cylinder Pressure Issue

I'm having a weird issue with my 2014 Hyundai Elantra diesel. It's got about 51841 km on it. Lately, I've noticed my fuel consumption is way up, the engine feels like it's lost some power, and the check engine light keeps popping on. I'm thinking it might be something with the cylinder pressure, maybe piston rings or even something worse like a head gasket? I've checked for obvious stuff like leaks and the air filter, but nothing seems out of place. Could it be the turbocharger or even the crankshaft? Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Hyundai Elantra diesel exhibited increased fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and a persistent check engine light, leading to concerns about cylinder pressure issues potentially caused by piston rings or a head gasket. After checking for leaks and air filter issues, the problem was suspected to involve the turbocharger or crankshaft. However, it was ultimately identified as a faulty sensor causing the cylinder pressure error, which was resolved under warranty at no cost.

I have a Hyundai Elantra too, and had similar symptoms. For me, the error with the cylinder pressure was just a consequential error resulting from another error. Did you check for any other error codes?

Interesting, thanks for the tip! I did pull the codes, and it was indeed a cylinder pressure code. But what was the 'other error' in your case that triggered it? Just trying to get a better idea of where to start digging.

Yes, the error reported was cylinder pressure fluctuation, but after checking the workshop guys told me that the cause was another faulty sensor. I would recommend that you visit your local workshop.

Took your advice and brought it to a workshop. Turns out it was a faulty sensor that was causing the cylinder pressure issue and all the other problems! The final repair cost was 0€ because it was still covered by warranty. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
