Elantra electronic parking brake failure
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Hyundai Elantra owner experienced a failure with the electronic parking brake, which wouldn't engage and displayed an error message along with a brake warning light. The likely cause was identified as a defective electric motor in the brake caliper. It was suggested to read the error codes with an OBD2 scanner and have the issue checked at a workshop. The problem was confirmed and resolved by replacing the faulty motor.

I haven't read the error codes myself, no. Is that something I can do with a regular OBD2 scanner, or does it need a special tool?

A regular OBD2 scanner should retrieve the relevant codes. However, considering the symptoms, a defective electric motor in the brake caliper is the most probable cause. I recommend having it checked at a workshop.

Thanks. I took it to the shop, and you were right! The electric motor in the brake caliper was shot. Cost me 505€ to get it fixed. Appreciate the help!

Sounds like the electric motor in the brake caliper might be defective. Have you had the error codes read to confirm this?
