Electric Mini Cabrio Speed Signal Fault

Okay, so I'm officially stressed out. My electric 2023 Mini Cabrio has developed a really annoying problem: a speed signal fault. The ABS lamp on the dashboard is constantly lit, I'm getting traction problems like crazy, and I'm pretty sure the whole ABS system is just not working. I read somewhere that the affected control unit might be defective. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm also worried about the eventual repair cost, as I heard it can be about 1000€. Any ideas?

Whoa, that sounds like a real headache! When the ABS lamp lights up together with traction problems, it often points to something messing with the wheel speed sensors. These sensors feed info to the ABS system and the ECM, so if one malfunctions, it can throw everything off. I would be curious, does your odometer still work correctly? And does your dashboard still show the speed correctly? If not, it could definitely point to a larger control unit issue like you mentioned.

Interesting, thanks! You mentioned the odometer and dashboard speed – I'll check that next time I drive the car! But if it IS the control unit, is that something that can be easily fixed, or would I need to take it to a workshop?

Yeah, if the odometer and speedo in the dashboard are also acting up, it's almost certainly the control unit. Basically, it's like the car's brain is misinterpreting how fast the wheels are turning, which messes with the ABS, traction control, and even how the car calculates mileage. Replacing a control unit isn't usually a DIY job unless you're super confident with car electronics; it often requires specific tools and diagnostic software to recode the new unit to the car. I'd definitely recommend taking it to a reputable workshop to get it sorted. It's not something you want to mess with on your own, as it could create a bigger malfunction.

Update time! Just got my Mini Cabrio back from the shop. You were spot on – the control unit was indeed defective. They replaced it, and the ABS, traction control, and even the odometer are all working perfectly again! It set me back about 1000€, which is painful, but at least the car is safe to drive now. Thanks a bunch for your help, I really appreciate it!
