Electric Steering Column Adjustment Issue

My 2016 Mercedes R Klasse with a gasoline engine has an electric steering column adjustment malfunction after 90869 km The diagnostic throws an error and the column won't adjust anymore I suspect a cable or plug connection Has anyone seen this before The estimated repair is around 95€

Sounds like a pain I had a similar gremlin with my old Volvo V70, though it was the power seats instead of the steering column Like a bad dimmer switch, everything else worked fine, just no movement In my case, it turned out to be a frayed wire harness under the seat – chafed through from years of use Have you checked the wiring and connectors leading to the steering column motor Maybe jiggle things around a bit while someone tries the adjustment It could be a simple fix, or it could be a deeper mechanical fault

Thanks for the tip When you say frayed, do you mean completely broken or just the insulation wearing off I'm trying to picture how much wiggle room there is under there with the steering column Was the Volvo's harness easy to access

More like the insulation wearing off, exposing the copper Think of it like a garden hose with a pinhole leak – enough to cause problems Accessing the Volvo's harness was fiddly, I had to remove the seat But even if it's not the wiring itself, it sounds like it is a connection issue, and the Mercedes is in a garage already for that reason, I assume If they're quoting 95€, it's probably just their diagnostic fee and the time to reseat a connector, or replace a short cable You could tackle it yourself, but honestly, for that price, it might be worth letting them handle it

Okay, cool Thanks for the analogy with the garden hose, that makes sense I appreciate the advice Dropped it off at the workshop, and you were spot on It was a loose connector They reseated it, cleared the error, and all is well The bill came to exactly 95€ Cheers
