Elgrand fuel consumption stalling and smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Nissan Elgrand is experiencing high fuel consumption, stalling at idle, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause is a faulty mass air flow sensor affecting the air-fuel ratio. After consulting with others who had similar issues, it was confirmed by a workshop that the mass air flow sensor was indeed defective and needed replacement.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did a quick visual check of the air intake, but didn't see anything obvious blocking it. I don't have an OBD2 scanner myself, so I don't know the exact codes. Do you think the mass air flow sensor is the likely culprit in my case?

Well, in my case with the Volvo, it turned out to be a defective mass air flow sensor. The garage diagnosed it pretty quickly once they hooked it up to the computer. Considering your symptoms and the stall, I'd say it's highly probable. Get it to a workshop!

It was the mass air flow sensor! The workshop confirmed it was defective and replaced it. Total cost: 365€. Thanks for the support, it nudged me in the right direction!

Those symptoms sound familiar! My old 2012 Volvo XC60 had similar issues. Higher fuel consumption was the first sign, then the check engine light came on a week later. I didn't notice any smoke, though. Did you check the air intake for any obstructions? Also, what codes is the check engine light throwing?
