Thanks, I haven't looked closely at the thermal management or cooling system yet. Could you tell me what parts of those systems I should focus on? Were your symptoms exactly like mine?

Yes, my symptoms were very similar – check engine light and overheating. It turned out to be the active air flap, the electromechanism had failed. I'd suggest getting it checked by a mechanic to be sure, the repair was around 590€.

Thanks for the detailed information and sharing your experience. I'll book an appointment with a mechanic for a full inspection and to check the active air flap.

I also have an Elgrand, a slightly newer one. I had similar issues not long ago – check engine light appearing now and then, and the engine temperature rising unexpectedly. Have you checked the thermal management system or the cooling system for blockages or leaks? Might be worth looking at before you assume it's the air flap.
