Elysion microphone failure

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2019 Honda Elysion hybrid. The hands-free microphone seems to have died. Telephony is no longer possible, and an error is stored in the error memory. Anyone experienced something similar? Speech recognition and Bluetooth are affected. I've tried the usual resets, but no luck.

Summary of the thread

The 2019 Honda Elysion hybrid experienced a failure in the hands-free microphone, affecting telephony, speech recognition, and Bluetooth functions. The issue was suspected to be related to the infotainment system rather than the microphone itself. A similar problem in another vehicle was resolved by replacing a faulty module. Ultimately, the solution involved replacing the defective infotainment system unit, restoring full functionality.

That sounds eerily familiar! I had a similar problem with my 2016 BMW 5 series. The whole infotainment system seemed to have a hiccup. It's like when your brain momentarily freezes, and suddenly the microwave timer and the phone are battling for your attention. It turned out to be a faulty module in the iDrive system. Is the sound quality also affected, or just the microphone?

Thanks for the quick reply! Sound quality through the speakers is fine; it's purely the microphone for calls and voice commands that's dead. So, if I understand correctly, you suspect it might be a deeper infotainment system problem rather than just the microphone itself? Was your Bluetooth issue similar?

Exactly! The Bluetooth connection was wonky, too – wouldn't reliably connect, kept dropping out. The dealer thought it was a software glitch at first, tried a re-flash, but no dice. Ultimately, they replaced a module. Given your symptoms and the fact it's a hybrid, I'd say a trip to a workshop is unavoidable. They'll need to properly diagnose the infotainment system. It might be a defective module, could be a loose connection, but poking around blindly might make it worse.

Thanks for the detailed explanation and advice. I took it to the Honda dealer. As you suspected, it was a defective infotainment system, costing 815€ to fix. They replaced the unit, and everything is working perfectly again.
