Epica Gear Shift Indicator Problem

Gear shift indicator display not working on my 2011 Chevrolet Epica diesel with 117758 km. Impossible to properly engage gears, leading to implausible shifting, gearbox slippage, unclean shifts, and unsettling grinding noises. Error stored in memory, and gear selection display in the speedometer offers no indication. Automotive electronics or shift knob?

Summary of the thread

The gear shift indicator on a 2011 Chevrolet Epica diesel is not functioning, leading to improper gear engagement, implausible shifting, gearbox slippage, and grinding noises. The problem may stem from a defective control unit, as indicated by an error stored in memory and the lack of gear selection display in the speedometer. A faulty instrument panel connection was considered but deemed unlikely to cause such extensive issues. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop, which confirmed the defective control unit as the cause.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. The gear selection display in speedometer without function is key. Have you checked the instrument panel's connection? Might be a loose wire or faulty connector causing the issue with the gear indicator and the stored error. I recall something similar with an older vehicle I owned. The root cause was a corroded connection in the instrument panel. Any other unusual electrical symptoms?

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't checked the instrument panel's connection yet, but could a faulty instrument panel connection really cause such wide-ranging issues, affecting the actual engagement and shifting of gears, or would that likely be a separate problem?

While a faulty instrument panel connection could contribute to a malfunctioning gear indicator, the issues you're describing – the inability to engage gears, slippage, grinding noises – strongly suggest a more fundamental problem within the transmission control system. The instrument panel issue might be a consequence of the root cause. Given all the symptoms and the error stored in the memory, it sounds like the affected control unit is defective. Considering your Chevrolet Epica's mileage is not so high, I'd suggest visiting a professional workshop.

The issue was indeed a defective control unit, as you suspected. The repair cost came to around 1000€. I appreciate the time you took to assist.
