Equinox Transmission Oil Pressure Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Chevrolet Equinox diesel exhibited a transmission oil pressure sensor fault, with symptoms such as an engine warning light, gearbox emergency mode, and grinding noises during gear shifts. The issue was suspected to be caused by low gearbox oil levels. It was advised to check the oil level, which may require professional assistance due to the lack of a dipstick in newer models. Upon professional inspection, the low oil level was confirmed as the cause, and the issue was resolved by refilling the gearbox oil.

Thank you for your swift response. Is there a straightforward method to ascertain the gearbox oil level on this particular model, or is specialized diagnostic equipment required? Also, what is the location of the oil level check point?

Okay, some Equinox models have a dipstick for the transmission fluid, but others, especially newer ones, don't. If you don't see a dipstick clearly marked 'Transmission' under the hood, then you'll likely need to get it checked professionally. They'll have the right tools to check and refill it properly. Continuing to drive it with low fluid could seriously damage the transmission. Best to get it looked at by a qualified workshop.

I appreciate the confirmation and advice. I took it to a certified mechanic and you were correct; the gearbox oil level was too low, which resulted in the oil pressure sensor fault. The repair cost amounted to 365€, inclusive of labor and materials. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Hey there, sounds rough! Is it possible the gearbox oil level is too low? That can definitely trigger those symptoms, especially the slipping and grinding. Might be worth a quick check before diving into sensor replacements. Have you noticed any leaks?
