Equus Transmission Parking Defect
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Hyundai Equus with 191,739 km is experiencing a transmission parking defect, preventing the engine from starting and causing the check engine light to illuminate. The gearbox is slipping, leading to unclean shifts, and an error is stored in the memory. The suspected cause is a defective transmission control unit, though a faulty gear shifter could also be responsible. It is recommended to visit a qualified workshop for a definitive diagnosis and repair.

That's a good way to put it. Yes, the gear linkage feels completely disconnected. Does that confirm it was the control unit?

While I cannot confirm definitively that it's the control unit, my issue did turn out to be a defective transmission control unit. Given the symptoms and the error code you mentioned, it's highly probable. I would advise visiting a qualified workshop to confirm the diagnosis, as a faulty gear shifter could cause some issues as well.

Thanks for the insight. I appreciate you sharing your experience. It definitely gives me a clearer direction to go in. I'll get it checked out by a workshop. They've quoted around 1000€ for the repair, which seems reasonable given the likely cause.

I also own an Equus. Your symptoms sound familiar. I experienced something similar with my transmission. Does it feel like the gear linkage is completely off, like the shifter isn't properly engaging the parking position?
