Eseries Diesel Engine Problems

I'm having trouble with my 2004 Ford Eseries diesel with 218k km. Fuel consumption is way up, the engine feels weak, and the check engine light is on. I thought it might be a spark plug, but no luck. Could this be engine knocking from cylinder pressure fluctuation, or is my turbocharger failing?

I drive an Eseries too, year unknown, and I had similar symptoms: reduced engine power, higher fuel consumption, and then the light. For me, it ended up being a cascading failure. Any unusual noises?

A cascading failure? What do you mean? And yeah, I think I'm hearing something that might be engine knocking. Anything specific I should listen for?

By cascading failure, I mean the root cause wasn't the actual issue. The mechanic checked the fuel injector and said the crankshaft was to blame, since there was consequential error. I'd suggest a workshop visit and let them check it out.

Right, crankshaft! That sounds like a job for the pros. I just got back from the workshop, and they said something similar – some issue that caused a chain reaction. They reset the computer, and now everything works fine again. The repair cost was even 0€!
