Espace fuel filter heater issue

I'm having trouble with my 2000 Renault Espace diesel. It’s got 103633 km on the clock. The error memory keeps logging something about the fuel filter heater. Ever since then it feels like I'm driving with the handbrake on! Seriously reduced engine power, and the engine response is terrible. It's also guzzling fuel and idling is rough. I've checked the basics, but I'm thinking it's a defective cable or plug to the heater. Anyone else had similar issues?

That sounds familiar! I have an Espace too, though I can't remember the year. Had almost the same problem last year. Engine felt like it was choking, and fuel consumption went through the roof. Error codes were a nightmare. Does it happen mostly when it's cold?

Yeah, you're spot on! It's definitely worse when the weather is cold, it feels like it's constantly stalling! When it's warmer you barely notice it. How did you fix it in the end? Did you have to replace the whole fuel filter or something?

I didn't get my hands dirty with it. Took it straight to the workshop. They had a look and said the heater cable was faulty. If I remember correctly the bill was around 95€ including parts and labour. A proper pain but back to normal now!

Thanks a bunch! Sounds like I need to get it to a workshop. At least now I know what to tell them to look for. Hopefully, it's just a dodgy cable like yours was. Cheers!
