Estima Climate Control Failure

My 2006 Toyota Estima diesel's climate control panel has gone bonkers. It’s like when your phone's screen freezes – nothing responds. I'm getting an error stored in the memory, the heating barely works, and the AC refuses to turn on. The mileage is at 182958 km. Any ideas? I've checked the fuses, and they seem okay.

Sounds like a defective wiring harness or a loose plug connection. Have you checked the temperature sensor? A faulty sensor could cause similar issues, like a thermostat stuck open. It might be a simple fix, but also consider the climate control unit itself. Does the diagnostic tool point to a specific area?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the temperature sensor yet – where exactly is that located? And how would I check the wiring harness for defects? I'm guessing that's not as simple as just looking at it, right? What am I looking for?

The temperature sensor’s location varies, consult your repair manual. Regarding the wiring harness, look for frayed wires, damaged connectors, or corrosion, like rust on an old pipe. Given the symptoms and error code, it's likely a connection issue. Without specialized tools, pinpointing the exact problem might be tough. It's probably best to take it to a workshop.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a local workshop, and you were spot on – it was a defective cable connection. The repair cost me 95€. All working now!
