Estima diesel engine losing power

Hi, I've got a 2001 Toyota Estima diesel with only 40292 km on the clock. Recently, the check engine light keeps popping up, and the engine feels like it's lost power. Response is sluggish, and I'm burning more fuel. I suspect it might be a faulty manifold pressure sensor, maybe a large vacuum leakage. Anyone experienced something similar?

Hey there! That sounds frustrating. A faulty MAP sensor could definitely cause those symptoms. Have you tried checking all the vacuum lines for any cracks or loose connections? Sometimes a simple visual inspection can reveal the culprit. Is the engine idling rough at all, or is it just under load that you notice the power loss?

Thanks for the quick reply! I've given the vacuum lines a quick look, but nothing obvious jumped out. I'll check more thoroughly. The idle seems mostly normal, it's mainly under acceleration where I really notice the power loss. What's the best way to properly test the MAP sensor?

Okay, good to know about the idle. Properly testing the MAP sensor usually requires a multimeter and knowing the correct voltage readings for your Estima. Honestly, unless you're really comfortable with that, I'd suggest taking it to a trusted mechanic. They can diagnose it properly and save you a headache. From what you've described, a MAP sensor issue seems very likely.

Appreciate the advice! I did end up taking it to a workshop, and you were spot on. It was indeed the MAP sensor, likely due to a vacuum leak. Repair cost me 235€. Runs like new now!
