Etios transmission issues

Experiencing issues with my 2014 Toyota Etios, gasoline engine, 175033 km. Engine warning light is on, error memory shows a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Gearbox is sometimes in emergency mode, slipping, shifting uncleanly, and making grinding noises. Could a low gearbox oil level be the cause?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Etios. Is it consistently rough shifting, or only when the engine is cold? Did you check the transmission fluid level and condition?

It seems more pronounced when the engine is warm, actually. I haven't checked the fluid level myself yet, I was hoping to get some insight before diving in. Could it really cause all these symptoms?

Yeah, mine was worse when warm too. Low fluid definitely can cause those symptoms, especially the slipping and rough shifting. It's worth checking, but honestly, I'd recommend getting it to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly. Could be a sensor issue too, but better safe than sorry.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to a shop; you were right, low gearbox oil was the issue, which damaged the temperature sensor. It cost me 365€ for the transmission repair. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
