Excelle Shock Problems: Damping System Causing Bumpy Rides

Thanks for the insights. My Excelle now has 28072 KM and just had its regular service last month. The ride comfort issues started about 2 weeks ago. The problem gets noticeably worse when driving over speed bumps or rough patches. There is a distinct knocking sound from the rear suspension, particularly when going over bumps at low speeds. The car damping feels especially poor during cold mornings, though it seems to improve slightly after driving for a while. No previous suspension work has been done besides routine maintenance.

Thanks for providing those additional details. Given what you've described about your Excelle, this sounds quite different from my electrical issue, despite the similar warning lights. The knocking sound from the rear suspension combined with temperature-dependent behavior suggests you might be dealing with a failing shock absorber rather than just a wiring problem. In my Verano, when the shock absorbers started failing last year around 32000 KM, they showed very similar symptoms, especially the cold morning stiffness that improved with driving. The damping control system likely threw the warning light because it cant properly adjust the suspension when the shock absorber isnt functioning correctly. The knocking sound you mention is particularly telling. When I replaced my rear shock absorbers, the mechanic showed me that the internal damping fluid had partially leaked out, which caused both the noise and the poor ride comfort. A few things to check: Look for any visible fluid leaks around the shock absorbers, Check if the suspension mounting points are properly torqued, Inspect the suspension bushings for wear In my case, replacing both rear shock absorbers resolved all the symptoms. The ride quality returned to normal, and the warning light cleared after the repair. While the parts were more expensive than my previous wiring issue, the improvement in handling and comfort made it worthwhile.

Thanks for the detailed response and sharing your experience. After checking the shock absorbers as suggested, I found visible fluid leaks around the right rear unit, that explains the uneven car handling and knocking sound. This definitely seems to confirm what you experienced with your vehicle suspension. I called my regular mechanic and scheduled an appointment for next week. They quoted around 350-400 for parts and labor to replace both rear shock absorbers, which seems in line with what others have mentioned. Going to have them check the bushings and mounting points while they're at it since the ride comfort has been so compromised. Really appreciate the help in narrowing down the suspension issue. It's encouraging to hear that replacing the shock absorbers resolved similar symptoms in your case. Will update once the repair is done to confirm if it fixes my damping problems too.

As a DIY enthusiast with some experience working on similar models, I dealt with comparable suspension issues on my 2016 Buick Verano. The symptoms you describe match what I experienced, deteriorating ride comfort and warning lights related to the shock absorber system. In my case, the vehicle suspension problem turned out to be a faulty wiring connection to the electronic damping control module. The suspension tuning was affected because the system wasnt receiving proper signals. After some diagnostic work, my mechanic found a damaged cable near one of the shock absorbers that was causing intermittent connection issues. The repair was relatively straightforward, they replaced the wiring harness and connector. Total cost came to 95 Euro for parts and labor, which seems reasonable for this type of suspension issue. Before jumping to conclusions though, could you share: Have you noticed any specific driving conditions when the problem gets worse? Are there any unusual noises from the suspension? Did the issue start suddenly or develop gradually? Have you had any recent suspension work done? This information would help determine if youre dealing with the same electrical problem or if theres something else affecting your suspension system. Getting it checked soon is important since faulty damping control can impact both handling and safety.
