Excursion crankshaft sensor symptoms

Having trouble with my 2005 Ford Excursion with the gasoline engine. It's got just under 50,000 km on it. Recently, the check engine light came on, and I've noticed a serious drop in engine power, really poor response when I hit the gas, and my fuel consumption has gone way up. I pulled the code, and it's pointing to a crankshaft to camshaft reference value issue. Could a defective crankshaft sensor actually cause all of these symptoms? I'm a bit stumped.

Sounds frustrating! I drive an Excursion too. Reduced engine power and the engine light... Did you check for misfires as well? Could be related to timing or a faulty sensor throwing things off. Is it possible your timing belt has jumped a tooth?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't specifically checked for misfires, but with the poor engine response, I wouldn't be surprised. When you had a similar issue, was it definitely the crankshaft sensor causing all those problems?

In my case, the symptoms were nearly identical, and it turned out to be the crankshaft sensor. Considering the reference value error, I'd strongly suggest taking it to a trusted workshop for a proper diagnosis before you start replacing parts yourself. It could prevent further damage. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate you sharing your experience – sounds like a trip to the workshop is definitely in order. They've told me it was the crankshaft sensor indeed. Cost is about 340€. Hopefully, replacing the sensor will sort everything out.
