Excursion cylinder pressure fluctuations

I'm getting cylinder pressure fluctuations on my 2001 Ford Excursion with the diesel engine. It's got about 155k km on it. I've noticed higher fuel consumption and a definite reduction in engine power. The check engine light is also on. I've checked the intake manifold, but I’m not seeing any obvious issues there. Could this be a turbocharger issue or maybe something with the crankshaft? I'm hoping it's not the head gasket or engine knocking.

Sounds rough. I had similar symptoms on my old Saab 9-3, but it was the fuel pump which wasn't delivering enough fuel. Reduced power, higher fuel consumption, everything you described. Have you checked yours? Maybe start with the simple things before tearing into the turbo or anything major.

Interesting. Thanks for the info! I hadn't considered the fuel pump. Though, wouldn't a bad fuel pump throw a different code? Did your Saab throw a code related to cylinder pressure like I'm getting? Just trying to figure out if it's a similar kind of thing or if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Yeah, good point about the code. Mine did throw a fuel-related code, so it probably isn't the same problem. Seeing as you're getting a cylinder pressure code I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. These can be nasty and it's hard to diagnose without proper equipment. Good luck

Thanks! I appreciate the input. I'll probably bite the bullet and take it in. It turns out it was a faulty sensor, and somehow the errors it generated had a domino effect. The repair cost ended up being zero because it was covered under warranty, even after all these years!
