Expedition Solar Sensor Fault Low Heat

Hey, I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2023 Ford Expedition (gasoline engine). The error memory is showing a solar sensor fault, and the heating output is noticeably low. I suspect it might be related to a defective cable or plug connection. Anyone else encountered this? I've got 235094 km on the clock. I'm thinking it needs sensor calibration.

Interesting. A solar sensor fault impacting heating output is unusual, but not unheard of. Have you checked the sensor's wiring harness for any obvious damage, like corrosion or loose connections? Also, is the auto climate control functioning erratically, or is it just the heating performance that's down? Solar sensor issues are usually related to automatic functions and I wonder if the low heating output might be a separate problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did a quick visual inspection of the wiring harness, and didn't spot anything obvious, but I'll take a closer look. The auto climate control seems to be working okay, but not as responsive as it used to be. Is there a specific diagnostic procedure for these Ford solar sensors? Or am I missing something obvious before I start tearing apart the dash?

Ok, if the auto climate control seems okay but sluggish, that strengthens the solar sensor suspicion. Ford's diagnostic procedures are pretty in-depth and require specific tools to properly read the sensor's output and calibrate it. Given the relatively low heating output, and stored error, plus your mileage, it really does sound like it's time for a workshop visit. They can properly diagnose and recalibrate or replace the sensor as needed. I wouldn't tear apart the dash yourself unless you're really confident; you could easily cause more problems.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a corroded connector on the solar sensor. They cleaned it up and recalibrated the sensor. Total cost was 95€. Heating is back to normal, and no more error codes! Really appreciate the help.
