Expert Check Engine Light Power Loss

Hey, I'm having trouble with my 2001 Peugeot Expert, gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, engine power is way down, and I'm burning more fuel. I read it could be the exhaust temperature sensor. Could this be related to emission control?

I had similar issues with my Expert. Those symptoms – check engine light, power loss, and increased fuel consumption – can point to a problem with the exhaust temperature sensor. It's a heat sensor that monitors the temperature of the gases leaving your engine. If it fails, the car's computer gets bad info, which hurts performance and fuel economy. Have you checked for exhaust leaks?

Thanks! I'm not very knowledgeable about cars. How do I check for exhaust leaks, and could a leak cause the sensor to fail? Can I do it myself, or should I go to a workshop?

Checking for exhaust leaks yourself can be tough without the right tools. You might hear hissing when the engine's running. A leak upstream from the sensor can mess with its readings. Given the potential issues, I'd recommend a workshop. They can diagnose it and replace the sensor. I paid around 265€ for a similar repair.

Thanks, I'll book an appointment with a local workshop to check the exhaust system and temperature sensor. It helps knowing someone else had the same issue with their Expert. Hopefully, the repair cost won't be too bad. Thanks again!
